Fatehgarh Sahib, July 31 -- Under the state government health insurance scheme, about 46 lakh families will be provided a health cover of Rs 5 lakh in the first phase, said Punjab health minister Balbir Singh Sidhu.
The minister spoke about the scheme at Fatehgarh Sahib on Monday, where he was inaugurating the Jan Aushadhi store at the civil hospital.
He said at least 16 lakh more families will be covered in the next phase. "The scheme is inclusive of all rural and urban families which can avail free treatment up to Rs5 lakh at all government health institutions and 317 private hospitals empanelled by the government," he said.
Sidhu also warned doctors to prescribe only those medicines which are available at the Jan Aushadhi store.
