'Filing case against women fighting drug abuse menace shameful'
Dharamshala, Dec. 31 -- Former chief minister and leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur on Tuesday joined the protest organised by Bilaspur BJP against the growing menace of drugs in the state and the case filed against the women patrolling to stop drug abuse in Bilaspur.
Describing the case filed by the police against some women of Mahila Mandal patrolling their panchayats against drugs as "shameful and unfortunate", Jai Ram demanded its withdrawal. In this regard, he took out a protest march from Bilaspur main market to the deputy commissioner's office and submitted a memorandum to the chief minister through the deputy commissioner to withdraw the case filed against the women.
Recently, an FIR was also registered against the members of Laghat mahila mandal in Bilaspur after they caught some suspicious young men and beat them up and later uploaded their video. As nothing was found from the three youngsters who later approached the police with complaint along with their families, alleging that they were assaulted and restrained before the police arrived, and that the video went viral, damaging their social image.
The leader of the Opposition said that drug addiction is increasing day by day in the state. "Drug addiction is wreaking havoc in every corner of the state. Our youth are dying prematurely on the streets every day due to drug overdoses. But instead of taking strict action against drug dealers, the government is targeting the women who are raising their voices against drug abuse," he said....
