JAMMU, Dec. 11 -- Deputy chief minister Surinder Choudhary, on Wednesday accused the BJP of politicising "Vande Matram" song for creating a divide between Hindus and Muslims with an eye on ensuing West Bengal assembly elections. Responding to media queries at Nowshera, he said, "Every citizen has respect for Vande Mataram song. It is equally respected by Muslims as well but BJP wants to politicise it with an eye on elections in West Bengal." "It is good to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram song. This song brought the people together and the freedom fighters from all faiths but to play politics over it is totally wrong," he added. Choudhary, however, inadvertently stated that the song was sung by Rabindranath Tagore. They (BJP) did the same thing of creating a divide during polls in Bihar and now they want to create Hindu-Muslim divide for the ensuing assembly polls in West Bengal. But I would like to tell the BJP to fight elections on developmental issues rather than stirring emotions of the people and creating hatred," he added. He questioned the BJP that for how long will they "keep doing Hindu-Muslim politics". htc...
