Srinagar, June 15 -- Jammu and Kashmir lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday provided a permanent government job letter to the widow of Syed Adil Hussain who was killed on April 22 at Baisaran, Pahalgam, along with 26 tourists.
Syed Adil Hussain a ponnywala was killed while trying to defend the tourists at Baisaran when terrorists targeted the tourists. He hailed from Hapatnar village in Anantnag, south Kashmir.
On Saturday, Lt governor visited the village, located around 30km from Pahalgam, and handed over the letter to Gulnaz Akhter, widow of Adil Hussain. Sinha also interacted with the parents of Adil and other villagers.
Sinha told the reporters that he met the family members of Syed Adil Hussain at Anantnag. "I gave an appointment letter to Gulnaz Akhter on compassionate grounds. The whole country is proud of the bravery of Adil who sacrificed his life while protecting tourists at Pahalgam on April 22," he said, adding that the woman has been provided a permanent job in the fisheries department in Anantnag.
"This government job to Adil's wife symbolises our deep gratitude and I have assured his family members of continuous support. I also met the villagers there who urged for employment opportunities in the area which will also be considered."
Meanwhile, National Conference (NC) chief spokesman and legislator Tanvir Sadiq thanked Sinha for handing over the job.
Sadiq in a post on X said, "In moments of pain, politics must make way for compassion, and governance must honour its word. We thank LG Sahab for handing over the job order that was already prepared by the Fisheries Department, a department under the elected government led by Minister Javed Dar. This reflects the maturity and responsibility shown by the elected government, we did not allow egos to come in the way."...
