Zubeen Garg dies in freak scuba accident; industry in shock
	
		
				India, Sept. 20 -- Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, most popularly known for his song Ya Ali from the 2006 film Gangster, died on Friday afternoon following a freak scuba diving accident in Singapore. He was 52.
Assam Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal confirmed Zubeen's death on X, writing, "Deeply saddened by the untimely demise of our beloved Zubeen Garg. Zubeen da was more than a singer... Assam has lost its dearest son, and India has lost one of its finest cultural icons."
Zubeen reportedly fell into the sea during a scuba excursion and was rescued by Singapore Police. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.
Reacting to the news, composer Pritam shared, "Zubeen Garg losing his life in an accident is just the most terrible news. My deepest condolences to Garima (Saikia Garg, Zubeen's wife and producer) and his family." Composer Rahul Vaidya added, "This is such a shock, I'm still unable to process it. His voice was so unique in his league."
Zubeen was scheduled to perform at the North East Festival in Singapore over the weekend.htc
