Woman shot dead over land dispute in Dausa district: Police
Bharatpur, Sept. 26 -- A land dispute in Dausa's Baswa area escalated into violence on Thursday morning when a woman was shot dead and her sister-in-law critically injured, police said, adding that the incident led to protests that saw villagers block the Alwar-Sikandra mega highway for nearly five hours.
Police said the deceased, Kailashi Devi (52), was shot in the chest allegedly by Rajendra (37), son of Pappu Ram, during a heated argument over land. Her sister-in-law Bidam Devi (53) sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was referred to Dausa district hospital in critical condition, added police.
Police said Kailashi Devi's husband had a long-standing dispute with Pappuram over the boundaries of their lands.Pappuram's family had allegedly uprooted pillars and fencing between their lands on Wednesday night. Gopal's family tried to restore them on Thursday , leading to the incident.
Rajesh Kumar, Baswa police station in-charge said the police detained main accused Rajendra Saini and six others from Alwar while they were allegedly trying to flee to Uttar Pradesh. A case has been filed under relevant sections of the BNS, he said, adding that the deadlock between the protesters and authorities ended around 1 pm after assurances of compensation....
