Bharatpur, Nov. 11 -- A 55-year-old woman was killed and six of her relatives injured after a dispute between two families escalated into an alleged ambush on one group by the other on Sunday in Deeg district, police said on Monday. According to Jay Prakash, assistant sub-inspector at Kaman police station, the victim was identified as Shyamvati Devi. The incident occurred at around 7pm in Bajhera village, said Prakash, adding that according to a complaint filed by Ram Prakash Thakur, son of the deceased, the family of seven were returning home after attending a funeral in Uttar Pradesh, when they were allegedly ambushed by means of a roadblock by assailants from the family of the prime accused, Pratap Thakur. The assailants allegedly assaulted the group severely before fleeing the spot, said the ASP, adding that they were rushed to the district hospital, where the deceased succumbed to her injuries on Monday. "The two families were involved in a land dispute for sometime," said the ASP.
