Woman dies as building collapses
Jaipur, Sept. 19 -- A 60-year-old woman was killed while another was severely injured when a dilapidated residential building in Jaipur collapsed early on Thursday morning, said police.
According to the police, the two-storey building suddenly collapsed when the two women got stuck under the debris.
"Their neighbours and relatives immediately called the police when the building collapsed at 7 am. The local civil defence team from the municipality arrived at around 9 am," said the officer.
However, 60-year-old Dhanni Bai was found dead while her daughter-in-law Sunita Bai (35) sustained a severe leg fracture.
"She was rushed to the hospital. Their two children are safe as they were outside. No case has been lodged so far. Prima facie, the building was in a crumbling condition for a long time and their landlord did not renovate it despite several warnings," said the officer.
The deputy commissioner of the Jaipur Heritage Nagar Nigam, Seema Chaudhary, said, "A notice had been issued to this building on August 12. However, the landlord neither demolished it and shifted the tenants in different places nor started any renovation... We are probing the matter.'
