Without 'parchi' from Delhi, CM unable to take decision: Dotasra
Jaipur, Aug. 8 -- Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra on Thursday criticised chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma over the recent school roof collapse in Jhalawar saying that the CM cannot move without a single "parchi" sent from Delhi.
Dotasra said the CM had not visited a single school since taking office, yet had time to visit temples. "Schools are also temples. But he didn't have time to visit these schools and ask the students about their well-being. Neither can he take a decision, nor move anywhere without a single 'parchi' sent from Delhi," he said.
Calling the Jhalawar incident "unfortunate", he said, "This is a result of complete failure of a system. Had the government taken cognisance of these dilapidated buildings timely, these innocent lives could have been saved. They didn't even get proper compensation."
Dotasra urged all the legislators irrespective of any political party to take lessons from this incident. "This is not a time for politics. We need to take care of our students, develop the schools, and immediately repair the school buildings. The Congress MLAs have already written a letter to the collectors and have also been directed to spend necessary amounts from their MLA funds to repair these buildings."
At least seven minor students died and 28 sustained injuries after a portion of a government upper primary school building collapsed in Piplodi village of Jhalawar district on July 25. The tragedy occurred while students were attending the morning prayers.
The victims were identified as Payal (14), Priyanka (14), Harish (8), Sona Bhai (5), and Mithun (11) - from the Bhil community; Kartik (18) from Lodha community; and Meena (8).
HT reported earlier that at least 2,710 school buildings across Rajasthan have been found by the state government since 2024 in a dilapidated condition, an internal report of the education department showed. A fund of Rs.254 crore was also allocated in the last two budgets for the repair of these buildings; however, a major chunk of it is yet to be released by the Finance Department, the report revealed. Of the total buildings 83 are in Jhalawar.
Commenting on the development, BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bharadwaj said: "This incident is unfortunate. The CM is taking necessary actions to support the families of the victim. Necessary steps are also being taken to repair the buildings and a significant fund has also been allocated."...
