Wedding brings glitz, glamour to Udaipur
Udaipur, Nov. 22 -- Udaipur has again become the hub for a wedding extravaganza as lavish celebrations for American billionaire pharma businessman Rama Raju Mantena's daughter, Netra Mantena (Elizabeth), and US-based Vamsi Gadiraju began on Friday.
The celebrations will go on till November 24 while the main wedding ceremony will take place on November 23 at the iconic Jag Mandir Island Palace, located in the middle of Lake Pichola.
Foreign guests and celebrities began arriving in Udaipur from Friday morning. Bollywood stars Madhuri Dixit, Jacqueline Fernandez, Kriti Sanon and singer Sophie Choudry landed at Dabok Airport around 1pm to join the festivities. The families of the bride and groom reached Udaipur a day earlier.
The celebrations started with a welcome party on November 20, hosted by actress Amyra Dastur, featuring Manganiyar folk performances and unique aerial acts, including a dancer performing mid-air with balloons.
On Friday, the haldi ceremony took place at Taj Lake Palace, while a grand Bollywood performance night is scheduled today at City Palace.
Donald Trump Jr., son of US President Donald Trump, is set to attend the wedding with his partner. Before arriving in Udaipur, Trump Jr. visited the Taj Mahal on Thursday, spending around 45 minutes at the monument, posing on the famous Diana bench and touring the mausoleum of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal.
Adding further glamour, global popstars Jennifer Lopez and Justin Bieber are expected to attend the celebrations, with one performance reportedly lined up for them, though their schedule is being kept confidential for security reasons.
Several Indian film stars including Hrithik Roshan, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor are also likely to join the guest list.
For the wedding, Manak Chowk at Udaipur's City Palace has been decorated with dazzling lights and flowers. A large stage setup has also been built here, where artists will give their performances. For the past three to four days, performers have been rehearsing continuously at the venue.
Majority of the luxury hotels are totally booked, especially Hotel Leela Palace, where majority of the events are taking place.
Ahead of the wedding, Indian security forces and American security agency teams also reviewed the wedding venues.
Udaipur SP Yogesh Goyal said, "Udaipur is all alert over the wedding being organized here and special arrangements for the security of the VIP guests have been made and police have been deployed around all the venues of the wedding "....
