BARMER, May 26 -- A strong protest continues in Rajasthan's Sirohi district, where hundreds of villagers from 22 villages-including Riroti, Jaba, Janatawas, Bhurmal, Kesarpura, and Gumati-have united against illegal sand mining in the Krishnavati river. The agitation, ongoing for several days, escalated with the announcement of a 10-day market shutdown starting Saturday. Markets across the villages remained closed on Saturday and Sunday in solidarity. In addition to the shutdown, villagers began an indefinite hunger strike from Saturday to demand an end to illegal mining. Narayan Suthar from Jawal and Dinesh Singh from Jamotra are commencing fasting for last two days. The Krishnavati River Protection Committee informed the administration about the fasting participants. Despite health check-ups by medical teams and police security arrangements, the protestors remain steadfast. "We are protesting for the protection of the Krishnavati River and began a hunger strike from Saturday.
