Jaisalmer, Oct. 7 -- The ongoing Oran Bachao protest in Jaisalmer took a significant turn on Monday as villagers boycotted government schools, choosing not to send their children in a symbolic show of resistance. This action comes amid growing frustration over the government's silence regarding the demand to officially record Oran (community grazing lands) in revenue records. A day earlier, villagers had organized a symbolic 'Sadbudhi Yagya', praying for divine intervention. Declaring Oran as 'Dev Bhumi' (sacred land), they submitted a plea to the gods, saying, "If no one listens to us, God will save Oran." The protest, now in its 21st day, has seen sustained participation across rural Jaisalmer. As a mark of dissent, the Oran Bachao Team called for a one-day boycott of government schools across multiple villages. According to team leader Sumer Singh Samta, no positive or official response has been received so far from either the district administration or the state government. "This boycott is a warning," he said. The boycott saw participation from villages including Khuhdi, Pochina, Mokla, Parewar, Loonar, and Bhadli. While students arrived at school premises, they refused to enter classrooms. Instead, they stood outside alongside villagers, raising slogans to protect Oran lands.
