India, Aug. 15 -- He's been the talk of the town ever since he bagged his first National Film Award for Best Actor for 12th Fail (2023). On Independence Day today, actor Vikrant Massey gives his first interview since the win. "During school it used to be one of the most special days. I used to always have aloo-poori with shreekhand and kheer. We would sleep till 8-8.30am, wake up to Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon by (late singer) Lata Mangeshkar ji, it was our alarm. But as we grew up, I understood the significance of the day. It's a great moment to reflect on what our forefathers went through to make our nation what it is," he tells us. Calling India "the place to be in today, tomorrow and always," Vikrant adds that he hopes to inculcate the importance of togetherness in his one-year-old son, Vardhaan, as a responsible citizen. "As a father today, there are values I want to inculcate in my child, to value what our forefathers have gone through." He adds, "We are a 78-year-old free country, but so many people from this generation don't know the significance of the day. I hope I am able to teach my son the value of India's freedom. As for our country, we are headed in the right direction." The actor also urges personal introspection, saying, "We often ask what the government is doing for us, but rarely do we ask ourselves what we are doing for the country." The 38-year-old emphasises that change can begin with small actions. "Afsos iss baat ka hai that when our countrymen travel abroad even for 10 days, they follow that country's rules, and say, 'Yeh desh kitna saaf hai'. But we don't want to follow similar rules in our own country. Kahin bhi kachra fenk dete hain. Har cheez ke liye sarkaar ya desh pe ungli nahin utha sakte," he ends....
