Urdu has always been a secular language: Akhtar
Jaipur, Jan. 16 -- Urdu has always been a secular and agnostic language, lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar said on Thursday at the 19th JLF, as he discussed the history and adoption of Urdu in India.
"Urdu is spoken in many countries like Iran, Iraq, Uzbekistan, Syria. How many of them are Muslim? Also, how many Muslim speak Urdu? Does Bengali Muslim speak in Urdu? Urdu is not in the race of minority's or majority's language," he said.
"Urdu has always been a secular and agnostic language. Compared to Sanskrit, Tamil, it is a child. Urdu is not in any race," said Akhtar.
On rising communalism, he urged people to judge individuals, not entire communities. " We should not paint the entire community with the same brush," said. Akhtar.htc...
