Barmer, May 2 -- About 250kg of doda post were seized and three accused were arrested after a brief encounter with the police in Balotra district on Thursday, police said.
"Acting on a tip-off about a Brezza car carrying a large consignment of narcotics heading toward Siwana, police teams led by Siwana circle officer Neeraj Sharma, including personnel from the local police station and the District Special Team, set up an early morning checkpoint near Hinglaj temple," Balotra superintendent of police Harishankar said at a press conference.
"When a car came the police tried to stop it but the passengers tried to flee the spot. While running away, they opened fire on the police. In the retaliatory firing, Ramesh Jat (25), son of Panaram and a resident of Jaisar, Chohtan, was shot in the hip. The other smuggler, Khirtha Ram (27) from Panji village in Baytu, was also caught. The entire matter is currently under investigation," he said.
"During the search, the police seized approximately 250kg of doda-post stored in black plastic sacks from the abandoned Brezza vehicle. Forensic teams were called to the scene to collect evidence," he said.
The SP added that a case has been registered under the NDPS Act and other relevant sections under BNS against the accused....
