Jaipur, May 20 -- Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday said that the Congress MP Shashi Tharoor did "wrong by not informing the party leadership about his appointment to lead an all-party delegation" to key partner countries, including members of the United Nations Security Council later this month to convey India's message of zero tolerance against terrorism following the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. Addressing reporters at Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee headquarter in Jaipur, he said, "We respect him. He has remained a foreign minister and has also delivered lectures at the UN. We respect his experience. He is a nice person. It is also possible that anyone from the government or the opposition party offers him such a job. But it was Tharoor's duty to inform the party." He added: "He should have consulted whether he or his party would get into any fuss if he accepted this offer. Had he told the party about the matter before, it would have never been an issue in the country. He did wrong there and the government's mischievous mentality has been exposed." Taking a dig at the parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiu, Gehlot also said that the "The BJP is playing a mischievous game with the opposition party". "It is high time that we all need to stay united. But they are planning to divide our party. They called Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge asking for names to include in the delegation list. But then they sent four of our MPs' names on his (Rijiju) own choice. Why did you call Gandhi and Kharge then?" Gehlot added. Commenting on the Operation Sindoor, he also said that the government has taken a firm stand by demolishing terror hubs. "However, the involvement of the US President Donald Trump is dangerous. India and Pakistan had always been a bilateral matter between both the countries so far. A third party has never interfered. This is really dangerous how his tweet on ceasefire landed. We should remember that he is the president of the most powerful country in the world." He said, "Indian people are upset with Trump's attitude. The Central government should have issued a statement that the ceasefire happened based on a bilateral talk and Trump was not involved in the process. But his comment created a massive reaction now that the government has to face." The former chief minister also said that the entire BJP-led government in Rajasthan is working under pressure from the party's central leadership in Delhi or Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Addressing the reporters, he said, "The entire government is working under pressure and therefore is not being able to take any decision properly. All the decisions are being taken either at the BJP headquarters in Delhi or at the RSS office in Jaipur." "It's an extremely sorry state of affairs. The chief minister (Bhajan Lal Sharma) is a humble man. I believe that he should take a stand and maintain the dignity of his chair," Gehlot added. Commenting on the matter, BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bharadwaj said, "The Congress sent the name of Gaurav Gogoi whose wife has a link to Pakistsan. Rest of the names also had some comment on Pakistan. Nobody could have a better idea about foreign policies than Shashi Tharoor. Why didn't they consider his name beforehand?"...
