Jodhpur, June 20 -- Jodhpur is set to host this year's state-level Independence Day celebrations on August 15, officers aware of the matter said on Thursday, adding that the Jodhpur police commissionerate has launched a heightened surveillance and enforcement measures to ensure public safety and law and order across the city for that. According to police commissioner Rajendra Singh, advanced aerial surveillance will be deployed, including the use of a newly acquired night-vision drone. Additional police commissioner (headquarters) Nazim Ali said this brings the total number of drones to three, all of which will be used for daytime and night-time monitoring across sensitive locations. Surveillance will run in two shifts - 9am to 8pm and 9pm to 9am - with daily rotational deployment to cover different city sectors. The drones will monitor illegal activities such as unauthorised mining transport, unlawful liquor sales, suspicious public gatherings, and traffic violations. Sundays are designated for drone maintenance. Each day, assistant deputy commissioners of police will be tasked with reviewing drone flight reports. Day patrols will focus on hot spots such as gambling zones, illegal gas refilling, hospital premises and bus stands, while night shifts will target liquor law enforcement, unauthorised vehicle movement, and security at public places. Meanwhile, deputy commissioner of police (headquarters and traffic) Shailendra Singh Indoliya issued a prohibitory order under section 163 of the BNS, 2023, applicable from June 18 to August 16.
