Jaipur, June 26 -- Initial reports suggest that a farmer, who allegedly committed suicide in Sri Ganganagar district two days ago, was not under debt and an investigation is underway, Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot said on Tuesday.

Sohan Lal, 45, had allegedly killed himself by consuming poison on Sunday, leaving behind a note in which he accused chief minister Ashok Gehlot and deputy CM Pilot of not fulfilling the pre-poll promise of waiving farmers' loans.

"The matter is under investigation...The reports so far received claim that the person was not under debt," Pilot said addressing mediapersons at the state Congress office on Tuesday.
