Submit report on hingonia dam in 3 weeks, NGT orders raj pollution board
Jodhpur, May 12 -- Taking note of the ongoing environmental violations and encroachments in the submergence and catchment areas of Jaipur's Hingonia Dam, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) to submit a further action taken report within three weeks.
The directions were issued during a hearing held on Friday before the NGT's central zone bench in Bhopal, conducted via video conferencing. The tribunal, comprising justice Sheo Kumar Singh and expert member Afroz Ahmad, was hearing an application filed by Kamlesh Roj concerning unchecked construction and environmental degradation in the Hingonia Dam and Bandi River basin in Jaipur district.
Earlier, a joint committee constituted by the NGT revealed that major township projects were developed within the dam's submergence area without obtaining the necessary environmental clearances.
In response to these findings, the RSPCB issued show cause notices under Section 31(A) of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, and Section 33(A) of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, asking why closure directions should not be issued against the violators....
