Students protest principals' transfer in Balotra and Sirohi
Barmer/Sirohi, Sept. 25 -- Protests by students broke out in Balotra and Sirohi districts against transfer orders for school principals.
The education department had released a transfer list of school principals on late Monday night, transferring 4,527 principals. The directorate of secondary education had prepared a 508-page list for the large-scale transfers, which was released on Monday.
In Balotra district's Sindhari block, students of Government Senior Secondary School Lohidi locked the school gate after learning that their principal, Jagdish Kumar Solanki, had been transferred. The protesting students declared that they would not enter the school until the transfer was revoked.
Villagers supported their demand, alleging that the transfer was made under political pressure. They said that under Solanki's leadership, the school's academic performance had improved, and students were excelling. Officials reached the spot to pacify the protesters, but till filing of this report no agreement was reached.
Responding to the issue, assistant chief block education officer in Balotra, Babu Lal, said, "...Students and locals are protesting the transfer of the principal. I have received their memorandum and will forward it to the government, as the decision will be taken only at that level."
In another incident, students of Government Higher Secondary School, BTM in Balotra district staged a protest on Wednesday against the transfer of their principal, Satpal Chaudhary, to Jhalawar. Students blocked the mega highway in front of the school. On information, block education officer Hariram Chaudhary held talks with the students, and assured them efforts would be made to revoke the order.
In Shivganj tehsil's Radbar village, villagers locked the Government Higher Secondary School gate after knowing that their principal had been transferred within just a month and a half. They also pointed out five teacher posts were lying vacant.
In Pindwara tehsil's Kodarla village, residents locked the school to protest the transfer of principal Mohanlal Chaudhary.
Police tried to disperse the demonstrators, but the villagers and students refused to relent....
