Jaipur, Oct. 25 -- The Rajasthan government, under chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma, has expanded the Devnarayan Chhatra Scooty Distribution and Incentive Scheme to further promote girls' education and self-reliance, benefiting thousands of young women across the state. A release from the chief minister's office states, the Devnarayan Chhatra Scooty Distribution and Incentive Scheme was launched in 2011-12 by the Department of College Education to encourage higher education among girls belonging to the Special Backward Classes (SBC) of Rajasthan. Under the scheme, girl students who secure 50 percent or more marks in the Class 12 examination conducted by the Rajasthan Board or CBSE and are pursuing a regular undergraduate course in a government college or state-funded university in Rajasthan are eligible for a scooty. The distribution is done based on merit, according to the percentage obtained in the Class 12 exam. In line with the Chief Minister's initiative, apart from the fixed annual target, students with the same cutoff marks are also provided free scooties.
