State workers rally for OPS, fair promotions
Jaipur, Jan. 13 -- State government employees on Monday demanded continuation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), removal of promotion irregularities and regularisation of contractual staff as they staged a protest in Jaipur under the banner of the Akhil Rajasthan State Employees Joint Federation.
The rally began at Albert Hall and proceeded towards Civil Lines.
State president of the federation, Mahavir Sharma, addressed the gathering and alleged that the government has failed to engage in dialogue with employees for the past two years. He said while the government seeks suggestions from all sections ahead of the budget, employees receive "just 40 seconds" to voice their concerns.
The rally concluded at the designated protest site at 22 Godam. Employee leaders there accused the government of sustained neglect, saying officials in air-conditioned offices enjoy privileges while ground-level employees carry out work amid unresolved issues. Despite repeated representations, the government has not clarified its stand on the employees' 11-point charter of demands.
Sharma said the protest marks only the beginning and warned that the federation will launch a large-scale statewide agitation if demands remain unaddressed. The federation demands an end to changes in the OPS, removal of promotion irregularities, regularisation of contractual and outsourced employees, and formulation of a transparent transfer policy.
The federation has also reiterated demands to remove promotion anomalies, implement a transfer policy, set up the Eighth Pay Commission, continue the OPS and regularise contractual and temporary employees.
Former minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas said the BJP government made big promises but failed to fulfil any of them, leaving employees feeling cheated. He said the Congress had introduced the OPS and the Rajasthan Government Health Scheme, but these were later discontinued. "Employees are resentful. No new recruitments are being carried out," he said, adding that not just employees but every section of society is suffering. Khachariyawas alleged that the BJP is busy dividing society and evading real issues.
BJP state secretary Ekta Agarwal said the state government remains sensitive towards all sections of society, including employees. She noted that the government has created more than one lakh jobs since taking office, with many more in the pipeline. Agarwal added that the Congress has a habit of making baseless allegations as it has no real issues to raise, while the BJP government performs in line with people's expectations....
