Jaipur, July 28 -- To ensure the safety of school infrastructure, the state government will soon conduct artificial intelligence-driven quality check of school building across the state, with a focus on identifying and demolishing structurally unsafe structures, according to an official statement. Meanwhile, six officials were suspended on Sunday after a portion of a government school building collapsed on Friday claiming the lives of seven children. Education and Panchayati Raj minister Madan Dilawar on Sunday held a high-level meeting with officials of the education and Panchayati Raj departments to discuss measures to prevent such incidents in the future and formulate long-term plans. The statement stated that, "A comprehensive survey of all school buildings across the state is being conducted through district collectors. Buildings found to be in a dilapidated state will be marked with a red cross and closed. Those deemed unsafe will be prioritised for demolition, and alternative classroom arrangements will be made using containers. Container classrooms may also be set up in newly constructed school buildings if needed." The statement further said that a GIS-based application will be developed, on the basis of the survey, to map all unsafe and repairable buildings. This system will be linked to the Shala Darpan portal and powered by artificial intelligence (AI) to ensure safety-centric budgeting and timely interventions, it said. "Given the ongoing monsoon and potential hazards, Rs.150 crore has been proposed under the disaster relief fund to carry out repair work in over 7,500 schools across 170 tehsils," the statement said, adding that a dedicated cell will be established under the Samagra Shiksha programme to ensure quality control in school construction. "Additionally, the quality of all district-level constructions will be mandatorily tested through PWD's quality control labs." During the meeting, Dilawar directed that if construction quality is found to be poor, the contractor and the responsible engineers will be held accountable and recovery proceedings will be initiated. "Private schools will also be surveyed to ensure the safety of students. The Education Department will monitor transport vehicles for fitness, safety compliance, and driver health checks. School Development and Management Committees will be trained in first aid and fire safety to mitigate risks in case of accidents." As per chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma's directives, the statement said, the education minister has urged all state MLAs and MPs to contribute 20% of their development fund allocations for school infrastructure improvement. "Letters will also be sent to respective ministers requesting an increase from 15% to 20% allocation in the Dang Development Scheme, Magra Development Scheme, and Mewat Development Scheme." Meanwhile, on the directions of Madan Dilawar, secretary of Education Krishna Kunal on Sunday suspended Jhalawar's Elementary Education Officer Narsom Meena, Chief Block Education Officer Pramod Kumar Balasoria, former Chief Block Education Officer Chandrashekhar Luhar, Manohar Thana Panchayat Elementary Education Officer Manapsar Prabhulal Carpenter, Assistant Engineer of Samagra Shiksha (Jhalawar), and then Panchayat Elementary Education Officer Radheshyam Meena, pending inquiry.
