State notifies new dept for Rajasthani migrants
Jaipur, Dec. 7 -- The Rajasthan government on Saturday notified a new dedicated department for the migrated Rajasthani people to ensure better communication with them, said officials.
The order was issued by the Principal Secretary to the Rajasthan Government's General Administration unit, Dinesh Kumar. "In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) and (3) of the Article 166 of the Constitution of India, the Governor of Rajasthan hereby makes the following amendment in the Rajasthan Rules of Business. The existing head of the Department for Non Resident Indians and entries thereto shall be substituted by Department of Domestic and Overseas Rajasthani Affairs (DORA) which will handle all the coordination matters, schemes, projects, programmes for Non Resident Rajasthanis (NRR), NRR related issues, events related to NRRs, promotion of Government policies, development initiatives and achievements to the NRRs/NRIs, Rajasthan Foundation, NRIs related issues and coordination," read a copy of the order.
The move came weeks after the chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma approved a proposal in this regard during a cabinet meeting on November 19. During a Prawasi Rajasthani conclave on December 10, 2024, the CM had also declared it.
Officials privy to the matter said that this department will now work under the Rajasthani Prawasi Foundation. "...The Prawasi foundation had been working on this matter so far. But, they did not have sufficient officials to address the pile of responsibilities. DORA will complement those shortcomings and ensure better communication with the migrated Rajasthanis in future," he said.
He further added the DORA will strengthen the connection of the migrated ones to their roots. "Through this platform, the government will make all the schemes and other benefits of the state government available for the migrated Rajasthanis. Our folk artists will also get a global platform through this initiative," Rathore said.
Under the DORA, every district will also have a nodal officer to address any issue faced by the migrated Rajasthanis and their families, he said.
Rajasthan government is also all set to hold a Prawasi Rajasthani Conclave in Jaipur on December 10, the day that chief minister Sharma recently announced to mark as Prawasi Rajasthani Diwas.
"During the conclave, multiple sessions will be held on education, tourism, industry, health, and water conservation, aiming to facilitate collaboration between the government and the diaspora," said the officer.
Rajasthan Foundation has already expanded with 14 new chapters opened in the past year and 12 existing chapters now fully functional, making 26 chapters operational globally in New York, London, and Riyadh.
"The DORA will now help boost that growth further. The NRRs will now be able to easily invest in various sectors in Rajasthan through the portal of the department. This department may also act as the external affairs department for them. During any emergency situation outside the country, they can get in touch with DORA who will cooperate to protect them and their family members," he said....
