Jaipur, Oct. 17 -- The Rajasthan Transport and Road Safety Department has launched a high-level probe into potential lapses in bus manufacturing and safety standards, while Jaisalmer police have constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the Jaisalmer bus fire incident from all angles and establish accountability. Additional transport commissioner (Administration) and joint secretary, transport and road safety department, OP Bunkar said the department began an in-depth probe soon after the incident. A team from the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Jodhpur, is inspecting buses manufactured at the JAINAM Coach Crafter facility in Jodhpur. So far, 66 buses have been seized to determine whether the company violated prescribed bus body code norms during construction. The state government has constituted a five-member high-level committee under the chairmanship of Additional Transport Commissioner (Administration) and Joint Secretary O.P. Bunkar. The committee includes two departmental officers and two engineers from the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC). "The committee will conduct an in-depth investigation into the departmental and technical aspects related to the Jaisalmer bus fire tragedy. It reached Jodhpur on Wednesday night and is scheduled to visit Jaisalmer on Thursday," OP Bunkar said. He said to ensure transparency and expert assessment, the state government has also engaged the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT), Pune, an independent technical body, to conduct a parallel investigation into the incident. The CIRT team is expected to visit Jaisalmer over the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) and will submit a detailed technical evaluation report to the state government. The Transport Department has launched a special inspection campaign across Rajasthan to identify buses violating safety and body code standards. So far, 53 buses have been seized during the drive. The department has urged all bus transport associations to fully cooperate with the ongoing inspection drive and ensure that all necessary safety measures are implemented before operating any vehicle. According to Jaisalmer Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shivhare, only one FIR has been registered so far in connection with the bus accident, though two complaints were received. The second complaint in the matter has been merged with the first one. During the SIT investigation, key focus areas will include identifying the exact cause of the accident, any criminal negligence involved, and other related aspects....
