Jaipur, Oct. 3 -- Governor Haribhau Bagade on Thursday said that achieving freedom from open defecation under the Swachhata Abhiyan (Cleanliness Campaign) is a major milestone. He said that he has visited all districts of the state and was pleased to learn that toilets have been constructed in every village and hamlet. He also called upon people to work together to create effective systems for waste disposal in both rural and urban areas. Bagade was addressing the state-level "Swachhotsav" ceremony on Swachh Bharat Diwas on Thursday. On this occasion, he also felicitated officers and employees of districts that performed best under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. He released two publications of the Department of Local Self Government and administered a cleanliness pledge to all present at the event. He emphasized that clean air is everyone's responsibility. Urging people to adopt good habits for cleanliness, he called for giving up practices such as spitting in public places, staining office stairways with tobacco spit, or throwing banana peels on roads. He underlined the need to work collectively to eliminate filth. Remembering Bappa Rawal, he said that not only did Bappa drive away the Arabs from India, but also gave them such a lesson that they did not dare return for the next 150 years.
