Jaipur, Nov. 12 -- A major bureaucratic reshuffle late Monday night saw Rajasthan's chief secretary Sudhansh Pant being suddenly transferred to Delhi. The 1991-batch IAS officer has been appointed as secretary in the Union ministry of social justice and empowerment.
His appointment will take effect after the retirement of the current secretary, Amit Yadav, also from the 1991 batch.
Pant's transfer comes 13 months before his scheduled retirement in February 2027, sparking intense speculation in administrative circles.
Observers are debating whether this move signals closer coordination between the Centre and the Rajasthan government, or if it points to unease within the state's administrative setup.
Pant, who took charge as Chief Secretary on January 1, 2024, after the retirement of Usha Sharma, was brought back to the Rajasthan cadre from Delhi. Before that, he had served as Secretary in the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry.
A senior official said he is known to be close to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and is considered a result-oriented and efficient officer.
