Barmer, Aug. 2 -- The seven first referral units (FRUs) sanctioned by the state government in the bordering Barmer district nearly a decade ago to prevent maternal mortality, neonatal mortality and infant mortality have been rendered non-functional due lack of adequate staff, according to health officials. Barmer has one of the highest neonatal mortality rates in the state according to an annual health survey report. "The state government has sanctioned FRUs at seven locations-Baytoo, Sheo, Pachpadra, Gudamalani, Sindhary, Siwana and Kalyanpur.
