Jaipur, May 12 -- Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma met BJP national president Nitin Nabin and organisation general secretary BL Santosh in Delhi on Sunday, triggering speculation over a state cabinet expansion, reshuffle of portfolios, and pending appointments in boards, commissions and organisations. Discussions were also held on upcoming Rajya Sabha elections and the BJP's strategy to promote new faces in the state leadership. According to party insiders, the discussions focused on strengthening coordination between the government and the organisation, while also giving greater representation to new faces within the party structure. The meetings are being viewed as significant because the Rajasthan government is nearing completion of nearly two-and-a-half years in office, and the BJP leadership is now expected to push for administrative and political recalibration ahead of future electoral battles. People privy to the details indicated that deliberations were held on pending appointments in various boards, commissions, authorities and academies across the state. Discussions also reportedly covered appointments to urban local bodies and organisational restructuring at multiple levels. Party insiders believe that several pending political appointments may soon receive clearance, with a strategy being worked out to balance caste, regional and organisational equations. The strongest signals emerging from the Delhi meetings point towards a long-awaited expansion of the Rajasthan cabinet. At present, the state cabinet has 24 ministers, while up to 30 ministers can be accommodated under constitutional provisions. Discussions reportedly included performance reviews of ministers and feedback regarding governance and political outreach in different regions of Rajasthan.
