Special court grants interim bail to Joshi
Jaipur, April 29 -- A special court on Monday granted interim bail to former Rajasthan minister and Congress leader Mahesh Joshi, who was arrested in connection to irregularities in implementation of Jal Jeevan mission, after moved an application following his wife's death.
Joshi's wife Kaushal Joshi died after a prolonged illness at a hospital in Jaipur on Monday morning, people aware of the development said.
The development comes four days after Joshi was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the case related to irregularities in implementation of Jal Jeevan mission in the state.
Following information of his wife's death, Joshi's lawyer Deepak Chauhan moved an application for interim bail in the special PMLA court.
"The court granted interim bail for four days," Chauhan said.
After completing formalities, Joshi along with advocate Chauhan reached his residence for the last rites of his wife.
Kausahl Joshi was suffering from brain haemorrhage and was admitted to a private hospital. She died in the morning.
Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, PCC chief Govind Singh Dotasra, leader of opposition Tikaram Jully, former deputy CM Sachin Pilot and many other leaders of the Congress condoled the death.
BJP leader and former leader of opposition Rajendra Rathore visited the residence of Joshi to express condolence.
On April 24, after a seven-hour-long interrogation the Enforcement Directorate arrested Joshi in connection to an alleged money laundering in the JJM in Rajasthan. The arrest took place under section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) based on an FIR which was lodged by the Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on August 8, 2023.
The FIR also named 22 other officials, including the former additional chief secretary of the PHED department and a private person, Sanjay Badhaya, who is an alleged close aide of Joshi and was also arrested by the ED on July 16 last year.
The case was first came to the fore on August 6, 2023 when the ACB arrested at least five people, including some PHED engineers for accepting a Rs.200,000 bribe from a contractor Padam Chand Jain. Later, in view of the seriousness of the case, it was taken over by the ED on August 21, 2023....
