Jaipur, May 9 -- Assembly speaker Vasudev Devnani on Thursday directed the ethics committee of the assembly take up the matter of Bharatiya Adivasi Party Assembly member Jaykrishna Patel who was arrested for taking a bribe of Rs.20 lakh. The speaker also said that a decision will be taken soon in the case pertaining to BJP MLA Kanwarlal Meena who has been asked to surrender by the Supreme Court in a case relating to threatening a government servant at gunpoint. In a statement, Devnani said the anti-corruption bureau informed the assembly that Patel has been arrested for taking the bribe and that in view of the seriousness of the matter, it has been referred to the ethics committee for investigation under rule 253 k of the rules of procedure of the Vidhan Sabha. "The money has been seized from the MLA and that has put a question mark on the dignity of the assembly. The Ethics Committee will probe the matter of the conduct of the MLA and give its report to the speaker. The report will be tabled in the assembly," he said. Regarding Meena's case, the speaker said legal opinion has been taken from the advocate general and other legal luminaries and action will be taken soon as per the rules.
