Jaipur, July 25 -- In a move aimed at addressing growing concerns over incidents of misconduct and harassment of students by school staff, the Rajasthan government is developing a mobile app to allow students to file complaints directly to the education ministry, education minister Madan Dilawar said on Thursday. "In the last few days, we have received several reports against the teachers and other school staff for misconducting or abusing the students. The department has taken necessary actions against them immediately. We are now making an app for the students and their parents so they can directly lodge such complaints with us for a better mechanism," Dilawar told reporters in Kota. He added that the app will directly be monitored by him and his office. "My office and the education secretary will monitor the app round-the-clock. As soon as a complaint is lodged, our team will probe the matter. Necessary action will be taken if anyone is found guilty." He assured that students' identities will be confidential and they need not be afraid. "The students do not need to be afraid of anything in the schools. Their identity will be kept confidential. But this system will help the administration to identify the staff and teachers who intimidate the students. This system will ensure a better safety of the students inside the school," said Dilawar. The minister's announcement comes days after a teacher was suspended in Chittorgarh last week for recording an inappropriate video of a student inside the school toilet. Meanwhile, the minister, during a programme in a government school in Jaipur on Wednesday evening also asked the officials to not assign any non-teaching work to the teaching staff. "The education department does not assign teachers any non-teaching work. However, some teachers have complained in the last few days that they have been assigned non-teaching duty, following which we have immediately directed the district collector to stay those orders. This may hamper their time in the class and result in deteriorating performance of students," he added. Meanwhile, he added that the department has promoted at least 33,000 teaching and non-teaching staff in government schools in the last one and half years....
