Snooping on people is BJP's traditional politics: Dotasra
Jaipur, Dec. 5 -- Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saying that snooping on people's privacy is one of their traditional styles of politics.
"The latest Sanchaar Sathi app is a betrayal to the people's privacy. Earlier, this government also brought a software called Pegasus to keep a watch on the private data and details of several top politicians, activists, and other intellectuals of the country. Snooping on people's privacy is one of the BJP's traditional styles of politics," said Dotasra addressing the media.
Last week, the telecommunication ministry issued a directive to mobile phone manufacturers and importers of handsets intended for use in India to pre-install the Sanchar Saathi app on every phone.
The language of the directive suggested that users could not remove or disable it. This raised immediate concerns among privacy experts and civil society groups.
However, on Wednesday, the ministry also issued a further notification saying it has decided to revoke the mandate.
"Given Sanchar Saathi's increasing acceptance, the Government has decided not to make the pre-installation mandatory for mobile manufacturers," said the press release.
This came after communications minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that the government is open to amending the directive if people flag genuine issues.
Commenting on the development, Dotasra further added: "Our constitution gives us the right to maintain privacy. Hence, installing such a software in our phone by default is unscrupulous."
The Congress leader also claimed that the names of the people associated with the BJP are being included in multiple places during the ongoing SIR. "This SIR is just another technique of stealing votes. Our BLAs are keeping a watch of the situation. Congress is also preparing a memorandum to meet the election commission. Our leader will continue fighting for the people's rights," he said.
Dotasra also alleged that the BJP is busy hearing their own workers while the farmers are struggling to get access even to some basic facilities.
Reacting to the comments by the state Congress president, BJP Spokesperson Laxmikant Bharadwaj said, "The Sanchar Saathi app was brought to combat cyber security issues and it is not even mandatory. Congress must not forget that their chief minister snooped on the deputy chief minister's phone during a political tussle."...
