Bharatpur, Dec. 18 -- A young man of just eighteen, whose parents had to sell out land and jewellery to support his goal, has just began his walk towards achieving everything he has ever dreamt of, after getting selected to play in the Indian Premier League by the Chennai Super Kings for Rs.14.20 crore. Kartik Sharma, along with his parents reached Bharatpur on Wednesday, where he was welcomed by the people and cricket enthusiasts. "I have just passed 12th standard. My father always supported me in my cricket practice while my mother works in the Municipal Corporation," the 18-year-old, known in domestic circle as a six-hitting machine, said. Kartik joined Bharatpur District Cricket Association in 2014 then he played under-14, under-15 and India-C team. He has also captained the under-19 Rajasthan team. "Our economic condition has been weak as we had to sell out our agricultural land and plots in Bahnera village and her mother Radha sold out her jewellery for Kartik's love for cricket and his dream to represent our country," boy's father Manoj Sharma said. Remembering an incident from Kartik's earlier days, his father said: "I remember an incident when we took Kartik to Gwalior for a cricket tournament where we had to stay for four to five days. Due to no money to extend our stay, we spent the night in a night shelter without food." "But by the end of the tournament, Kartik was rewarded in the final match for his performance," he said. Kartik's mother Radha Sharma said: "I am proud of my son for getting selected for an IPL match. I can't narrate the struggle and conditions we went through to see this day."
