Jaipur, May 29 -- Minister of social justice and Empowerment Avinash Gehlot on Wednesday said the senior citizens are the foundation of the nation, upon which the present stands and the future will be built. He emphasised the need to create a society where the elderly not only receive support but also feel like active and respected members of the community. "The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment is running several initiatives including the Vriddh Kalyan Yojana, Bhakt Shravan Kumar Welfare Service Ashram (Day Care Centers), and Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, benefiting thousands of elderly individuals across the state," Gehlot said. While addressing a state-level workshop on the welfare and empowerment of senior citizens, he said: "The state government is making efforts to empower elderly citizens and make them self-reliant through various welfare schemes."
