Saving Congress-led govt in 2020 was a miracle, says Gehlot
Jaipur, May 22 -- Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday said that saving his own government from being toppled during a political crisis in 2020 was a miracle.
"It is a big thing to complete three terms as a chief minister. It was a miracle that my government survived in the last term. It was the blessing of the high command and your prayers that I completed five years, otherwise the question of completing five years does not arise," said Gehlot while addressing the party workers in Jaipur on the occasion of the death anniversary of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
"Hardly one or two leaders in the party in India have got as much as I have. To complete three terms as a CM is a big thing. When they (the BJP) decided to topple the government, governments fell in Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. In Maharashtra, 50 MLAs went to Shiv Sena," he said.
In 2020, then deputy CM and Congress state president Sachin Pilot had floated a rebellion claiming that he has strength of 18 MLAs. The Congress national leadership then sacked Pilot from his cabinet post and also the president designation in the party. Meanwhile, Dotasra was also appointed as the new president of the party's Rajasthan unit.
During Wednesday's meeting, Gehlot also took a dig at the BJP saying that they are only working to remove the authentic history of the country from the public memory. "From Mahatma Gandhi to Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi- all these leaders sacrificed their lives for the country. But this government do not want the children to remember them."
"They should remember that they won't ever be able to build their own history if they are trying to remove this histories today," he added.
Taking a dig at CM Bhajan Lal Sharma, Gehlot said: "He is only busy roaming around the state and different countries. He has visited eight districts in three days. How is it possible that he communicated with the people properly? We used to stay in a place, speak to the people properly and address the issues."
During the event, Dotasra said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power in the Centre in 2014 by misleading the youth, but 11 years have passed and he has not done anything for the youth till date. When Rajiv Gandhi talked about making the country a strong nation of the 21st century, BJP leaders used to ridicule it, whereas today PM Narendra Modi himself is talking about 2047."
Reacting to the remarks, BJP state spokesperson Laxmikant Bharadwaj said, "Congress has been alleging the same over the years even when they were on the power that the BJP is trying to dismantle the history. We haven't done anything. We have respect for our former PM. Rather, it's the Congress workers who were seen laughing during today's ceremony."...
