Ranthambore's tigress 'Sultana' births two cubs
Bharatpur, Dec. 20 -- Ranthambore Tiger Reserve's well-known tigress, Sultana, has given birth to two cubs. During the process of shifting the newborns, the tigress was seen carrying her cubs in her mouth, prompting authorities to temporarily close a key route inside the reserve as a precautionary measure.
According to forest officials, the gate connecting Ranthambore Fort to Ganesh Dham was closed for around half an hour on Friday morning after Sultana was spotted moving with her cubs. The Forest Department has since intensified monitoring of the tigress and her offspring to ensure their safety.
Officials said tigress Sultana gave birth near the Mishradarra Gate, which is known to be one of her most preferred and secure locations.
In fact, all of her previous litters were also born in a cave located near the same gate, indicating her strong territorial attachment to the area.
The development came to light when devotees visiting the Ganesh Dham temple early Friday spotted the tigress near the route and alerted forest officials.
