Rajputs fought for the nation, faith: Gaj Singh
Jaipur, Jan. 17 -- Rajputs fought to protect the nation while preserving their faith and the Mughals could not expand further because of sustained Rajput resistance, said Gaj Singh, erstwhile member of the Jodhpur royal family, while sharing memories and his journey to becoming the revered 'Bapji'.
Singh was joined by Aman Nath and Yogi Vaid who authored his biography- Bapji: The King Who Would Be Man, launched at the 19th Jaipur Literature Festival on Friday.
Singh was born on January 13, 1948, and was coronated on January 26, 1952 when his father Hanuwant Singh died in a plane crash. "However, despite the caste system in place, our door was open for everyone. Harijan people used to visit us regularly. I was taught that a king has no caste," Singh recalled.
"I have never thought of pursuing any other career. I never tried to shy away from the royal duty to succeed my father as a king. I grew up being aware of this responsibility," he said.
Reminiscing how he started being called 'Bapji' at four years of age, he said, "It's a very common address in Jodhpur. I think I am small man at the corner. I am a little guy in the end who built a monument on my father's ground."htc...
