Barmer, Dec. 11 -- Barmer district's border village Bakhassar will host a historic ceremony on 13 December, where the statue and memorial of Thakur Balwant Singh Bakhassar will be unveiled in honour of his extraordinary contribution during the India-Pakistan War of 1971. Balwant Singh, known as a vigilant border scout, played a crucial role in assisting the Indian Army with critical intelligence along the international border. The statue will be unveiled at Balwant Chowk in Bakhassar. Union defence minister Rajnath Singh, Union culture and tourism minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and Rajasthan deputy chief minister Diya Kumari are scheduled to attend the event along with several political leaders, and community members. Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Ratan Singh Bakhassar, son of the wartime hero, recalled his father's contribution. He said that during the 1971 war, Balwant Singh supported Brigadier (late) Maharaja Bhawani Singh MVC of Jaipur, the Commanding Officer of the 10 Para Special Forces. Balwant Singh provided precise information to the Indian Army regarding Pakistani troop movements and infiltration routes.
