Raj to launch free medicines' home delivery for elderly
Jaipur, Nov. 22 -- The Rajasthan government is preparing to roll out a welfare initiative that will deliver free medicines to the elderly at their doorstep. The plan, announced in this year's budget, is likely to go live by the time the Bhajan Lal Sharma government completes two years in office.
In the first phase, over 421,000 retired government employees enrolled under the Rajasthan Government Health Scheme (RGHS) will receive home-delivery of prescribed medicines. After assessing feedback, the scheme will be expanded in the second phase to cover all senior citizens aged 70 and above, irrespective of category.
Officials said the government is studying Tamil Nadu's home-delivery ration model to adapt it for Rajasthan's healthcare needs.
RGHS CEO Harji Lal Atal said, "A detailed action plan has been drafted, which will be soon submitted for approval." A specialised agency will be hired through tendering to manage doorstep delivery, he said.
The scheme will first be launched as a pilot in larger cities like Jaipur and Jodhpur, which have a high concentration of pensioners....
