Barmer, Dec. 7 -- Union minister of fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh has said that only one fodder-related project under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) was approved for Rajasthan, and just Rs.23.20 lakh as subsidy has been disbursed so far. The matter came to light in the Lok Sabha when Churu MP Rahul Kaswan raised the issue regarding fodder projects in Rajasthan. In response, it was revealed that the Rajasthan Government forwarded only one application for approval. The Union Cooperative Ministry informed the house that 49 applications were received under the category of fodder development, but the Rajasthan Government forwarded only one before the June 3, 2025 deadline, causing the remaining proposals to lapse due to administrative inaction. This bureaucratic failure has hit the state's livestock belt the hardest - especially Churu, Bikaner Barmer and Jaisalmer, where fodder scarcity routinely pushes families to the brink. While the Centre asked all states including Rajasthan to establish fodder task forces to expand fodder cultivation, the failure to act in time has left livestock-reliant communities paying the price. Hemaram Choudhary, a member of the Bhartiya Kisaan Sangh, said this year's fodder shortage was not due to monsoon failure or lack of financial assistance, but the result of delayed and inefficient administrative action. He claimed that if proposals had been processed and forwarded on time, multiple projects could have been sanctioned in underserved regions.
