Raj HC vacates Mount Abu construction stay
JODHPUR, April 16 -- The Rajasthan high court has vacated the stay it earlier imposed on construction activities in the Mount Abu region, while observing that a detailed order explaining the decision will be issued separately.
The court originally passed the interim order on February 26, directing that no construction should take place anywhere in Mount Abu without its permission, a lawyer familiar with the matter said on Wednesday.
The development came during the hearing of public interest petitions filed by residents of Abu Road in Sirohi district, raising concerns over alleged illegal constructions in the hill station. A division bench comprising acting chief justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma and justice Baljinder Singh Sandhu had earlier taken serious note of the issue and imposed a blanket restriction on construction activities across the region.
In the earlier order, the court had expressed concern over reports that multi-storeyed buildings were being raised across Mount Abu despite a restraint order passed by the Supreme Court. The petitioners had also alleged encroachments on reserved forest land and pointed to construction activities in areas such as village Danav, village Umarni, and around Shantivan/Manmohini Complex and Anand Sarovar. It was further stated that construction work was also being undertaken at the Brahmakumari Sansthan in Shantivan.
While imposing the stay on February 26, the court had directed that no construction should be carried out in any part of the Mount Abu region without its permission....
