JODHPUR, May 24 -- The Rajasthan high court on Thursday directed the state Government to immediately issue orders allowing current members of the Permanent Lok Adalats (PLAs) in Rajasthan to continue functioning until the final disposal of the ongoing case, emphasising the public's right to access justice. The order comes as an interim relief in a suo motu petition concerning the non-functioning of PLAs across the state. A division bench comprising chief justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and justice Birendra Kumar passed the order while hearing a petition filed suo motu following a media report that revealed nearly 992 cases were pending in Jodhpur PLAs alone, suggesting a backlog of over 10,000 cases statewide.
