Rainfall, dense fog across state amid W disturbance
Jaipur, Jan. 2 -- Rajasthan witnessed a sharp change in weather with rain, hailstorms and dense fog affecting several parts of the state as a western disturbance remained active.
The Meteorological Department said that during the past 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder was recorded in parts of the Jodhpur, Bikaner, Ajmer, Jaipur and Bharatpur divisions. The highest rainfall of 26mm was reported from Sri Dungargarh in Bikaner district.
The Met department has warned that dense to very dense fog is likely to prevail over most parts of the state for the next two to three days. In some areas, visibility may drop below 100 metres. Due to the foggy conditions, a further drop of 3-4 degrees Celsius in maximum daytime temperatures is expected. Between January 4 and 6, parts of the Shekhawati region may record minimum temperatures between 2 and 4 degrees Celsius, with the possibility of cold wave conditions.
With the onset of mavath (winter rain), hailstorms have also begun in parts of the state. On the first day of the year, intermittent rainfall was recorded in several districts, including Jaipur, Chittorgarh and Ajmer. In Bikaner, hailstorms on Wednesday night brought back severe cold conditions.
Most districts remained under dense fog since Thursday morning, disrupting normal life. In Jodhpur, poor visibility due to fog led to delays in flight operations. Meanwhile, late on Wednesday, lightning struck a house during heavy rain in Sadulpur area of Churu district.
The New Year has begun with an intense cold spell across Rajasthan. Light rain was recorded in Jaipur on Thursday morning, while Chittorgarh had heavy rainfall for half an hour around 5 am. Hailstones were reported in rural areas of Bikaner late Wednesday, while Sikar's Ramgarh area also received heavy rain on Thursday morning. Rain and hailstorms led to a drop of two to three degrees in temperatures across several districts....
