Jaipur/Bharatpur, July 31 -- Heavy rains have wreaked havoc across Rajasthan, triggering flood-like situations in several districts, including Kota, Tonk, Sawai Madhopur, and Dholpur. Many areas are submerged, and road and rail connectivity with Madhya Pradesh has been cut off in several places. Meanwhile, the Jaipur meteorological centre has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in six districts. In Sawai Madhopur, relentless rainfall since late Tuesday night led to flooding of homes with water reaching up to five feet. The Augad culvert on NH-552 near Bodal, around 12 km from the district headquarters, was washed away, severing the Sawai Madhopur-Sheopur (MP) route. Railway tracks at the Sawai Madhopur station have been flooded, disrupting train movement. According to the district administration, civil defence teams have been deployed to assist people in the affected areas. In Kota's Itawa region, the Parvati river is in full spate, flooding the newly constructed bridge on the Itawa-Khatoli route. Traffic on State Highway-70 (Kota-Gwalior-Sheopur) has been completely halted. Meanwhile, in Jaipur, due to rain since early morning severe waterlogging with floodwaters entering government quarters, including those of chief secretary Sudhansh Pant and DGP Rajeev Sharma, was reported. In Dholpur, the Chambal river is flowing five metres above the danger mark, disconnecting around 38 villages. Tributaries like Kali Sindh, Parvati, and Parvan are feeding into the swelling Chambal. Ten feet of water has submerged the Andhiyari culvert under Rajakhera sub-division, cutting off villages like Gadhi Jafar, Dagra, and Barsala. In Sarmathura, villages like Durgashi and Jhiri have lost road access. Local administration and SDRF teams have been deployed, while villagers are being advised to move to safer zones. Dholpur collector Srinidhi BT said that rescue operations are underway, and medical teams are on alert. In Karauli district, routes between Karanpur and Mandrayal are closed due to flooding, and villagers are being shifted to higher ground. In Bhilwara, a tree collapsed in the Mangla Chowk area, damaging a parked car. In Madhopur district, six hours of torrential rain caused flooding in low-lying areas. Amid the worsening weather, the Jaipur meteorological centre has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in six districts - Kota, Bundi, Baran, Jhalawar, Chittorgarh, and Pratapgarh - while a yellow alert remains for most other districts excluding Bikaner, Jaisalmer, and Barmer. Schools have been shut in 15 districts as a precaution. According to the meteorological department, more heavy rainfall is expected on Thursday in parts of Ajmer, Jaipur, Bikaner, and Jodhpur divisions. However, from August 1, rain activity is expected to reduce in southeastern Rajasthan, with only isolated heavy showers likely in Shekhawati and parts of Bikaner. By August 2, most areas may see only light to moderate rain, offering potential relief from the downpour. According to IMD, Jaipur witnessed a relatively cooler day on Wednesday with a maximum temperature of 27.8degC. Shri Ganganagar remained the hottest in the state, recording 37degC, followed by Bikaner at 36.2degC....
