Public service ultimate goal of governance: CM
Jaipur, Dec. 26 -- Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Thursday said that the ultimate objective of governance and administration must be public service, as he paid floral tributes to Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his birth anniversary, observed as Good Governance Day, at the State Secretariat.
Recalling the ideals of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the chief minister said his life and philosophy continue to inspire administrators to place people at the centre of governance. He also administered the oath of good governance to officers and employees.
The chief minister said governance should function without both neglect and undue pressure, and the Rajasthan government is working in line with this principle. He said the state government is making service delivery simpler and more transparent by organising rural and urban service camps to resolve public grievances.
He further said that under the Rajasthan Right to Public Services Guarantee Act, over 32.3 million applications have been successfully disposed of in the last two years.
Calling upon officers and employees, Sharma urged them to use technology with sensitivity to make Rajasthan a national leader in good governance.
Also on Thursday, speaking at the closing ceremony of the Sansad Khel Mahotsav at the Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium, Sharma said India is touching new heights in the field of sports and recalled that Vajpayee firmly believed the strength of the nation lies in its youth and considered sports not merely a physical activity but a powerful medium for character building.
Referring to major national initiatives, Sharma said schemes such as the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) and the establishment of sports universities have brought significant positive changes in the lives of athletes.
He cited the successful hosting of the Khelo India University Games and the launch of the Rajasthan Target Olympic Podium Scheme as milestones.
He said the state government has also introduced a Sports Life Insurance Scheme for athletes, under which international medal winners are being provided accident and life insurance cover of up to Rs.25 lakh. In another major decision, Dronacharya Award-winning coaches have been granted land allotments on the lines of Arjuna Award recipients. Sharma added that the government is strengthening sports academies in every district and developing playgrounds in rural areas.
The chief minister assured that no talented athlete in the state would lag behind due to a lack of resources. To support this vision, the government has increased the monthly allowance for resident students in departmental sports academies from Rs.2,600 to Rs.4,000, he said.
