Probe ordered after ex-panchayat chief attacked by family, say police
Bharatpur, June 16 -- A 31-year-old woman, who earlier served as a panchayat pradhan in Kaman, Deeg district, was brutally attacked by her family members on Sunday for pursuing higher education and staying in a live-in relationship, police said.
"We received a call on Sunday from a woman, Rachana Jatav, stating that she was attacked by her family members. She was previously panchayat pradhan in Kaman from 2017 to 2020 after winning the seat on a BJP ticket. After the completion of her tenure, she decided to pursue higher education and started staying separately in a rented accommodation with her live-in partner," said Anil Gautam, station house officer of the Kaman police station.
"The incident happened on Sunday. Some of her family members came to her residence, assaulted her and then fled. Her partner was not present during the incident. Her neighbours reached the spot and rushed her to the Deeg District Hospital where she is undergoing treatment. But the doctor said that she is stable," he said.
He further said that her statement will be recorded and an FIR will be registered after she gets better.
"Meanwhile, we are searching for her family members who attacked her," he said.
Speaking to the reporters from the hospital, Jatav said, "After completing my tenure as Panchayat Pradhan, I decided to continue my education to be a government teacher. I have also been in a live-in relationship with a man. I left my house four years ago when my family members forced me to stop education. I did a Master of Art and Bachelor of Education and am preparing for the REET exam to be a school teacher. But, my family has been forcing me to return home for the last few days."...
