Jaipur, Dec. 27 -- Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday flagged concerns over poor sanitation facilities at petrol pumps across the country, despite their rapid expansion. In a post on X, Gehlot said the number of petrol pumps in India has crossed one lakh, making the country the third-largest in the world in terms of petrol pump network, which he described as a positive development.
However, he pointed out that with the growing network of highways, expressways and state highways, families frequently travel long distances, only to find toilets at many petrol pumps either extremely unhygienic or locked. Gehlot said this situation causes particular hardship to women travellers.
Citing the petroleum ministry's marketing discipline guidelines, Gehlot said facilities such as clean toilets, drinking water and air are a right of every citizen and must be provided free of cost at all petrol pumps. He urged the Centre and the petroleum ministry to focus not just on increasing numbers but also on strict enforcement of hygiene and public facility standards.
Gehlot suggested launching a special 15-day enforcement drive against petrol pumps violating these guidelines, stressing that passenger convenience should not be compromised under any circumstances.htc...
