Bharatpur, June 28 -- In a crackdown on illegal sand mining, Dholpur district administration conducted a joint operation with police on Friday, took hold of large quantities of illegally mined sand, and deposited it in open areas, officials aware of the matter said, adding that 37 JCB machines and 40 vehicles were involved in raid. Sumit Meherada, Dholpur superintendent of police (SP) said that the sand found in the raid could fill up 5,000 tractor trolleys. The senior officer added that the action was taken after information about stock of river sand stored by mining mafia in villages near Chambal river. Teams from 20 police stations, district administration, forest department team, mining department team, and revenue team participated the raid. Power department removed around 20 transformers from villages. Police are registering complaints against the owners of the houses and agriculture farms where the river sand was stocked.
