Parts of state likely to log more rain this week: IMD
Jaipur, Aug. 17 -- The weather department has sounded alert for moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms in some parts of Udaipur, Jodhpur divisions of southern Rajasthan over the next four-five days, officials aware of the matter said on Saturday.
"A low pressure area was formed over southern Odisha and nearby Andhra Pradesh. The monsoon trough line is passing through the southern part of the state. In the next 4-5 days, moderate to heavy rains with thunderstorms are likely in some parts of Udaipur, Jodhpur divisions of southern Rajasthan," the India meteorological department (IMD) said.
It added: "Light to moderate rains with thunder-showers are likely in some parts of the remaining Kota, Ajmer, Jaipur, Bharatpur and Bikaner divisions. Due to the formation of back to back low pressure systems in the Bay of Bengal in the coming days, there is a strong possibility of the monsoon remaining active in most parts of the state and moderate to heavy rainfall activity being recorded in the last week of August."
On Saturday, the maximum 70 mm rainfall has been lodged in Udaipur's Gogunda.
Followed by 60 mm in Jhalawar's Piraan, Dungarpur's Dewal and Bharatpur's Pahadi. 50 mm in Jhalawar's Gangadhar, Rajsamand's Nathdwara and Rajsamand's Kushalgarh. 40 mm in Rajsamand city and Chittorgarh's Begu. Dausa city, Bharatpur's Kaman, Sirohi's Shivganj, Rajsamand's Devgarh, Bundi's Nainwa, Pratapgarh's Peepalkhut, Chittorgarh's Bhopalsagar and Banswara's Kesarpura, meanwhile, recorded 30 mm each.
The IMD also said that the state so far received 45% excess rains this season than the normal average.
IMD also issued a heavy rain alert in 23 districts including in Nagaur, Jaipur, Barmer, Jalore, Jaipur, Churu, Sikar, Jaisalmer, Dausa, Alwar, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Karauli, Ajmer, Jodhpur, Tonk, Sawai Madhopur, Bundi, Kota, Baran, Sirohi, Chittorgarh, and Bikaner.
The water level in dams across the state showed a steady rise in monsoon as over 77.60% of the total water storage of 693 dams have been filled after incessant heavy rains since Saturday which was only 58.65% in the same period (as of August 16) last year.
Data showed that 274 dams in the state have been completely filled by Saturday while 280 have been partially filled and 139 are yet empty.
Of the 22 major dams spread across Tonk, Kota, Jaipur, Banswara, Deeg, Dausa, Bundi, Pali, Bhilwara, Pratapgarh, Dungarpur, Rajsamand, and Salumber, with each having more than 100 million cubic metres (mcm) capacity; five dams - Galwa, Tordisagar, Morel, Chhaprawara, and and Sardarsamand were completely filled....
